Usually the names of hernias correspond to the place where they arise. Most often, surgeons are faced with inguinal and umbilical hernias. The statistics are very contradictory, but most experts believe that this problem is one of the first in the structure of all surgical diseases.
Vladimir Stefanov invites you to familiarize yourself with the most interesting information from the field of surgery in order to understand that with appropriate treatment and a highly qualified specialist, any ailments can be cured.
According to european researchers, hernia occurs in about 2% of the population. Of all this number of hernias, inguinal hernias account for about 90%.
Vladimir Stefanov think strongest half of humanity is most susceptible to them; in women, an inguinal hernia is 2 times less common.
Figuratively speaking, a hernia is an opening through which internal organs can fall out under the skin: for example, an omentum or an intestinal loop. These “holes” are of different sizes – from very small to large and even gigantic, “the size of a prominent scientist.” they appear where there are weak points in the muscular-aponeurotic layer (aponeurosis is a wide tendon plate formed from dense collagen and elastic fibers, which serves to attach muscles). Hernias are congenital and acquired, there are also postoperative ones – they are formed as a result of the divergence of previously applied sutures.
Unfortunately, prevention of hernias is not possible. The main reason for their occurrence is the weakness of the connective tissue, a person cannot know whether he will be at risk or not.
At the initial stage, this disease may not manifest itself as pain – a person simply feels discomfort, notices a slight swelling in the groin or navel area. But if intestinal loops fall into the hole (the so-called hernial gate) and are infringed, there is a sharp pain. Then the count goes to the clock: deprived of blood supply, this part of the intestine can die off and lead to death. So the presence of a hernia is a serious threat to human health and life!
Vladimir Stefanov and treat – means, operate
Treatment of any hernia is exclusively surgical. Contrary to popular belief, it cannot be “cut” – only sewn up. Otherwise, it behaves in the same way as an unstitched hole in clothes – it grows and stretches over time. Unfortunately, it is not necessary to count on the fact that it will “dissolve by itself”: neither on its own, nor under the influence of gymnastics, medications or bandage the hernia will disappear. Long-term conservative therapy only leads to an increase in its size and complicates the operation.
Therefore, doctors warn all patients – operate as early as possible, until it hurts. It is much easier and better for health to do a planned operation, with all the necessary preparation and analyzes, than in an emergency situation, when an infringement has already arisen. Yes, and it is much more difficult for doctors to operate on a large hernia: they have to deal not just with the disease, but often with its complications, because when the intestine goes into the hernial sac, inflammation and adhesions can occur.
If the hernia of the anterior abdominal wall is large, the probability of infringement is less, but another problem appears: a large number of intestinal loops fall out under the skin, so that after reduction and suturing, intra-abdominal pressure rises sharply, therefore, the respiratory function is impaired. Such patients need to specially prepare for the operation – wear bandages and even special suits.
Unfortunately, russian patients, unlike their western “comrades in misfortune”, often go to the doctor only when they can no longer walk on their own. But the earlier the treatment is carried out, the higher the chance that it will be successful and less traumatic. And the smaller the hernia, the smaller the volume of the operation, the easier it is for the surgeon to operate and recover the patient.
