Lions Eye Health Program - Australia resource materials
The Lions Eye Health Program-Australia is a community outreach program in which Lions educate at-risk populations about the dangers of glaucoma and diabetic eye disease as well as the importance of having regular dilated pupil eye exams.
LEHP-Australia began with a pilot program in the Lions District V2 in Victoria, which was preced by research confirming far too few people were aware of the potential danger of diabetic eye disease and glaucoma.
The program is now operative in all districts in Victoria, South Australia, the Northern Territory and Tasmania. New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia are just starting to commence.
LEHP-Australia is a simple program and unlike other Lions sight projects operates at club level. It gives valuable local exposure to Lions clubs and involves implementing community activities that raise the awareness of the implications of these two eye conditions with those at risk.
LEHP-Australia is funded until September 2004 by a SightFirst grant from the Lions Clubs International Foundation.
