To help all people with diabetes, their families and those at risk, and to contribute to the search for a cure
To plan strategy, conduct educational activities, interact with other organisations and people and contribute to diabetes research to achieve valued service and support for people with diabetes, their families and carers.
To be regarded as the leading expert diabetes agency conducting effective awareness and education programs, raising significant funds for research, maintaining productive partnerships with all relevant groups and individuals and providing valued assistance to people with diabetes, their families and carers
Diabetes Australia -- Victoria is recognised as Victoria's peak body in diabetes-related education, community awareness, support and advocacy. It provides education and support services for people with diabetes, and contributes to vital research. In addition, it plays a major role in raising community awareness of the disease, particularly of Type 2 diabetes, perceived by a large proportion of the Australian population as not posing a serious health risk.
DAV's programs include the development of community-based support groups, education and assistance for people newly diagnosed with diabetes, nutrition education, supermarket tours, public health education and awareness programs, childrens camp, and a telephone Call Centre which fields over 60,000 calls per year.
DAV is a not-for-profit organisation. The majority of our funding comes from our commercial ventures (47%) and the operation of the National Diabetes Services Scheme (26%) which we administer on behalf of the Commonwealth Government. The remainder comes from sponsorships, fundraising activities, and membership fees from our 23,000 members who participate in DAV services.
